Definitely a good destination to have Chicken Rice! Loved both the steam and roast option. If you are adventurous do try the fried chicken intestines!

I wanted to try the chicken rice balls outside of Jonker Street and the heavily reviewed places. So I ended up here. On a Thursday, at lunch hour and manged to get me a seat close to the entrance, so I can have my bike in full view while I lunched. Ordered me the Chicken Rice Balls with roasted chicken breast.... and an egg. The verdict? So glad I decided to try something different. So glad I did not heed that one review that the chilli was diluted. Glad I didn't settle for something that's tried and tested and heavily reviewed. Hobby Chicken Rice restaurant (Restoran) is a refreshing experience. The food is just nice. Portion not too overwhelming or miserly. Service respectable. Atmosphere.... it's a non-air-conditioned eatery.. so don't get your knickers in a knot when it gets a bit warm. The food more than compensates for it. Parking, on the other hand, might be a wee bit of a challenge if you're not a biker. Ample indiscriminate parking spots for bikes but less so for your 4-wheelers.

The best chicken rice!!! I really like it's chicken rice, compared to the rice balls, tho the rice balls are Malacca 's special. The rice here is not oily yet fragrant. Easily can have two plates. The chicken is flavourful, tender and smooth. The breast meat was not dry at all. With cucumber and tomato, it is just a delight to have for lunch. The fried intestines added the crunch to the meal but could get a bit "greasey" to the taste buds so good for sharing. Nice and friendly service too.

Food is only average. Portion is rather small. Chilli is. Abit diluted. Ginger however is good. It is not too pricy. Service is rather fast. Over all, it is not too shabby.

Dropped by Hobby Chicken Rice while in Melaka and had a satisfying meal. We ordered half a chicken (mix of steamed and roasted)—both were tender and flavorful. The steamed chicken was juicy and clean-tasting, while the roasted had a nice aroma and slightly crispy skin. The chicken rice balls were fragrant and not overly oily, a nice balance. We also tried the crispy chicken intestines, which were crunchy and rich—some might find them a little greasy, but we enjoyed them as a side. Portion-wise, the food was a bit on the smaller side considering the price, but the quality made up for it. The location is easy to find in Taman Merdeka Jaya, though parking can be a little limited. Service was friendly and fast. Overall, a good spot for a local-style chicken rice meal—clean flavors, decent variety, and good for a casual lunch. Would recommend if you're nearby!
